talk about recent cancel culture case

So, about a week ago, the internet went crazy, at least for some people who were following the topic. There was a short clip that has been circulating and it was about one of Korean muslim youtuber with the largest subscribers, I guess. I have watched his videos in the past, but not so often these days. That guy is seen half naked trying to put his pants on. The uploader said that she was a friend of someone, a girl that almost being raped by that guy. And it all happened a year ago before he converted into islam and became a muslim, or so they said. And people said it was only rumours and cannot be trusted, there are two sides of the argumentation, those who keep supporting him and those who don’t. I do have my own opinion related to this issue, yet I will try to be neutral here.

The majority of his subscribers or followers keep on believing on him and attacking the girl instead, which is for some people it is sort of confusing. Then there is a growing public opinion that islam and muslim are too easy on forgiving someone who committed such crime just because that someone converted. Some others argue that it is not about the religion, a crime is a crime no matter what and he cannot and should not went free without any form of punishment. Those who see him as a muslim, which they believe all of his past acts including crime is not entitled to him since he has turned and hold his new belief. Then there is another thing, some people documented that he still went to club as close as this beginning of the new year. While everybody talking about everything by their own side of the story or version or deduction, today he uploaded the second video which clearly stated that he admitted all of those rumours to be true all along. He only used islam to gain money from subscription on youtube from people watching him created islam-related contents so far. He even added another new fact that he was once married and has a son. Now people are wondering what other lies that he actually keeps secret from public.

As one of the muslim believer, though I cannot guarantee I am good enough in practising my belief, I can confirm that it is true that our God forgive all sins. But, the case we have here is not that simple. He made a mistake and tried to made piece with that girl somehow but he did not actually care, meaning he did not actually genuinely feel bad about what he did to her. In terms of whether he actually converted or not, whether he is already a muslim but keep going to club and casually hanging out with girls, as he mentioned in his video earlier today, all of us the born muslim or just converted muslim pretty much do the same. Everybody is not free from sins, except you are someone as pure as angel with very high spiritual state then that can be totally another story, probably.

This case of cancel culture is similar with the case happened couple of weeks ago with a young actress that I would probably talk more about that in another one different writing. What I’m trying to say is that, we have option by choosing two points of view on looking at things around us. Take everything negatively, that nobody is actually innocent, that literally everyone has their own worst deepest darkest secrets they keep inside, or accepting things positively by indicating that even if there are some evil in everyone but there is also kindness and something we may actually learned or inspired from at the very least.

Now referring back to this case, if we can take something from everything that happened then it probably would be the fact that how powerful social media is, how influencer can literally influence people, those followers seem like they have been brain-washed or something. That they have perfectly transformed into the real die-hard fans who are always ready to be there saying yes to his idol and attacking anyone they think is threatening someone they look up to. This is also at the same time indirectly suggested that probably he is not the only one faking everything just for the sake of internet popularity and views at all. Maybe, just maybe, there are so much more like him out there, nobody knows. While this issue develops, more and more prejudice can come from everyone.

Another fundamental input that I can highlighted is that how relatable are the online citizen from Indonesia to the ones coming form other countries from other part of the world. People says anything online, judging other people’s mistakes as if they don’t have their own sins to be taken care of seriously. Also, how powerful hate speech can be that it can attack the most fragile part, the mental health that can kill those people receiving hate comments from inside. Lest just hope that everything can be settled peacefully however they way is. And that everyone who follows the topic can actually learn something and not use this chance to freely exposed and express their comment by hating and bad mouthing and feel that they are better than the rest of the people they judge.

It is already past midnight now at the time I am writing this. After having such a not so good day today. At least I hope I can go to bed in peace tonight after pouring down my thoughts on one of so many things I want to address and give some opinion on. At the end of the day, we are all the same. We are human after all, we do good sometimes and do bad the other days, and hoping to get better. Wish to be at least someone better that what we were as someone yesterday. There is one word I really want to put it out here, evolution, like in the Digimon. May the time will be the only judge to the process of evolution we are having. May the God, whichever God you have your belief in, leads and guides His way.
